Summary Description

Host the M-F broadcast of Morning Edition and produce reporting on local and regional news.

Responsibilities:

• Serve as a lively and engaging radio host weekday mornings correctly following a program log and promotional priorities.
• Decide subject matter within newscast creation, perform research, manage, write, produce, edit, and announce local newscasts, either live or prerecorded, for Morning Edition; post newscasts to the website to ensure NPR One and iTunes distribution.
• Develop, research, manage, write, produce and edit interesting and relevant stories for on-air and online use; ability to work outside of the studio and offices to gather sound and visuals to compose those stories as well as conduct studio two-way interviews.
• Seek out, create and implement new and innovative approaches to storytelling and news, both through broadcast audio and digital platforms.
• Operate sound mixing board in on-air studio; coordinate news feeds from NPR with local newscasts, live weather and traffic reports; operate multiple computer systems simultaneously, such as ENCO, Dropbox, Audition, and Content Depot.
• Approve and critique syndicated and licensed outside news content for 91.5 KRCC use on air in newscasts or post online; make our content available regionally and nationally via syndication services and networks.
• Collaborate and coordinate with other 91.5 KRCC staff to create and maintain a strong station web presence including insertion of stories both local and via NPR, editing headlines and photos; develop and manage audience engagement strategies with an ability to understand online analytics.
• Assist in training and supervising/editing student interns; peer editing with other staff.
• Support and participate in partnerships with other public radio stations and entities, including local, regional, and other potential grant projects.
• Assist with fundraising, events and on-air work during fund drives.

o Promote a culture of safety and environmental protection by working in a safe manner; immediately reporting unsafe situations and accidents; following college procedures; and participating in appropriate safety training.
o Demonstrate environmental sustainability by using college resources wisely and supporting the college’s sustainability initiatives and innovation.
o Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of two years of related experience; experience reporting & editing, strong voice, audio technical equipment operation, sound and visual story-gathering skills; social media audience engagement skills and website CMS usage; knowledge of FCC rules and regulations and journalism ethics; excellent oral and written communication skills; excellent organizational and customer service skills; good judgment and ability to handle confidential/sensitive information with discretion; ability to think critically and solve problems independently.

Preferred Qualifications:

Degree in journalism or communication; experience hosting in a public radio setting; significant experience running a sound board and microphones; photography and video recording skills; ability to assist in managing and directing content from staff, interns and/or freelancers.
